The Militia of the Immaculata (MI) is a worldwide evangelization movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe in 1917 that encourages total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a means of personal conversion and sanctification, and of spiritual renewal of society. The MI movement is open to all Catholics over 7 years old — laity, clergy, and consecrated persons. As Marian missionary disciples, MI members employ prayer and self-sacrifice as the main tools in the spiritual battle for the victory of good over evil. They also engage in apostolic initiatives in various sectors of society, either individually or in groups, to give witness to the Lord and our Catholic Faith and to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. 

The Militia of the Immaculata received its first official Church approval in 1922. Finally, on October 16, 1997, the MI was erected as an International Public Association of the Faithful by the Holy See. The MI International Center is headquartered in Rome, Italy. The Militia of the Immaculata-USA (MI-USA) is the official entity of the Association in the United States. It is listed as such in the Official Catholic Directory. The MI National Center is located within the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, and this is the MI-USA website. 

• Please be advised that the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), a schismatic group that is therefore not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, promotes the MI under the name “Militia Immaculatae of Traditional Observance,” but has no historical and canonical connection with the MI Movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe in 1917, and has absolutely no authorization to do so.

• The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate (FFI) established and promote their own Marian association, the Mission of the Immaculate Mediatrix (MIM), which is attached to their religious institute. It may appear to parallel the structure and purpose of the Militia of the Immaculata, founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe, but it is not associated with it.

The Militia of the Immaculata (MI) Announces New National Leadership

AVE MARIA, FL — August 9, 2026 — The Militia of the Immaculata (MI) concluded its Third National Assembly, held at Ave Maria University, August 7–9, 2026. MI representatives from across the United States gathered for prayer, fellowship, and strategic planning. The Assembly was presided over by the MI International President, Mr. Miquel Bordas Proszynski.

A central highlight of the Assembly was the election of the new National Council, tasked with guiding the movement’s Marian mission over the next four-year term.

The newly elected MI National Council members are:

• National President: Mr. Dan Brian Scarnecchia
• National Vice-President: Mr. Roy Samson
• National Secretary & Council Member: Mrs. Emma Hegarty
• Council Member: Br. Chris Garcia, OFM Conv.
• Council Member: Mr. Joshua Mazrin
• Council Member: Mr. Nick DiGiovanni

The incoming Council expresses its deepest gratitude to the MI membership for their trust and support. Moving forward, the leadership team looks to actively promote St. Maximilian Kolbe’s vision of total consecration to the Immaculata, advancing the evangelization and sanctification of the world.
