Marian Consecration for Parishes

Under the protection of our patroness, the Immaculate Conception, we ask the intercession of Our Mother to watch over our nation and Church. One very special way of seeking her intercession is by consecrating oneself, one’s family and one’s parish community to her. Those who are consecrated seek to imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary in her faithfulness, her purity of heart, and her union with the Holy Spirit as she embraced her mission as Mother of Our Lord and of the Church. By consecrating ourselves to her, we thus strive to become like her: an authentic missionary disciples who make Christ visible in the world.

How to Consecrate Your Parish to Mary

The Parish Consecration Kit contains materials to prepare its members and congregation for individual, family, and parish consecration. Most are self-explanatory and are merely suggestions to facilitate the program. Please feel free to adapt it as you see pastorally fit according to the needs and traditions of your own community.

What Comes in the Parish Consecration Kit

Four Week Program

A proposed format of the parish preparation is a four-week program culminating in a special para-liturgy. Members of the parish are invited to totally consecrate themselves both individually or as a family, and then participate in the parish consecration collectively. In the packet are four bulletin inserts which offer a basic catechesis for Marian consecration.

Six Week Program

A second proposed format for parish preparation is a six-week program based on the booklet:

Behold Your Mother: The Path to Total Consecration to Mary in the Spirit of St. Maximilian Kolbe

This publication, first issued by the MI International Center, has been published to assist individuals interested in making their total consecration to Mary in the spirit of St. Maximilian Kolbe. Copies of the booklet are available for a suggested donation of $2.50 per copy. An audiobook version is also available on the MI website.

How to Get the Word Out

To publicize your preparation for Marian consecration we have included a sample poster, a press release and bulletin notices, as well as suggested intercessions to be included at the Sunday and weekday Masses prior to the parish consecration ceremony. Rituals for consecration ceremony within the context of Holy Mass as well as outside the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist are provided. Both link Marian consecration to the renewal of one’s baptismal promises as Catholic Christians and to the call to participate actively in the Church’s evangelical mission. A suggested prayer for parish community consecration is also included.

Additional Resources

In addition to the above resources, you will find a Resource Sheet for items that may be used to complement your parish preparation for Marian consecration.
